Goddess Lilith

Mother of all demons or the first powerful female?

Probably one of the most controversial goddesses even today, Lilith definitely divides opinions.

Described as the first woman on earth she is the oldest female figure or goddess.

Her name comes from the Sumerian word "lilitu" which means wind spirit or female demon. First mentioned in ancient Mesopotamia tablets and then in Jewish sources from the beginning of her known written story it is said she was related to Sumerian witchcraft.

Her symbols are the apple, the crossroads, the owl, the serpent and the tree of knowledge.

Colours associated with her are black and red, crystals correspondences are obsidian, jet, onyx and black moonstone.

Lilith helped and protected woman in childbirth and watched over nursed infants.

In religious sources she was said to be created from dust to be the first woman, unwilling to subordinate herself to Adam she left the garden of Eden. For this "crime" she has been depicted as a demon who steals children in the night.

Lilith was comfortable with her own sexuality which frightened organised religion, who believed having sex merely for pleasure was a sin.

The goddess who once protected mothers and children was then portrayed as evil who caused abortions and miscarriages, as well as murdering children in their sleep.

Whether you believe she is the mother of all demons or the first powerful female she represents independence, courage, sexuality and passion.

She assists to take back your power and to speak your truth, she is a goddess of transformation and awakening.

She can teach you to fight your inner demons and break through your inhibitions.

The best time to work with Lilith is the dark moon phase.
